Philosophy of Alderwood

Alderwood Toronto Private School is a response to the need for an education facility that remembers the heart of its existence; our children.

Our teachers know their students’ academic strengths and their weaknesses, their learning styles, their triggers, their interests and each teacher will be tuned into each student’s emotional states in order to ensure optimal success and growth. Students at Alderwood Toronto have caring, knowledgeable teachers who accommodate individual learning styles. Classes are small, ranging from 8 to 12 students.

Our students benefit from hands-on, active and experiential learning opportunities. We know our students strengths, areas for growth, learning styles, triggers, interests and more.

Academic success depends on a number of factors including a positive learning environment that fosters trust, critical thinking, motivation, respect and life-long learning. Communication with parents is integral to creating this environment. At Alderwood, parents and teachers are a team.

Alderwood Toronto fully integrates technology into the curriculum and learning in many ways including linking the use of Lego robotics with Mathematics, Science, Language and Social Studies. Each student (beyond Kindergarten) is required to have a laptop computer.

Evaluation and assessment is ongoing in collaboration with parents in order to continually monitor and measure the progression and areas of need for each of our students.

The environment of Alderwood Toronto Private School is much like a family, where each of our students take ownership over their learning, are motivated to learn and sincerely care about each other member of their "family."

Schools should be as dynamic as the students for whom they are built. Alderwood Toronto is committed to providing opportunities for participation in music, fine arts, drama, physical activity in both competitive and non-competitive environments, leadership skills, team building skills, self-discipline skills, self-respect and a sense of responsibility; opportunities that promote an appreciation for cultural diversity, tradition and appreciation of the responsibilities and privileges of global citizenship. Alderwood Toronto strives to build self-confidence and capacity in our students for success in future learning opportunities.
